Last night we camped at a canoe club on the Danube, where we met the delightful Emmanuelle and Guy. They are also cycling around the world, but westward, and are but two weeks shy of their home in France. Ships passing in the night.
Germany's mosquitos will give Memphis' a run for their money. Big rivers bring all the bloodsuckers to the yard, I guess.
Our rides these days are mostly flat, but also mostly gravel, which makes for slow-going. You can't coast on gravel. You can, however, mash up Richard Strauss' "The Beautiful Blue Danube" with Linda Ronstadt's "Blue Bayou" and sing "Blue Danube" to yourself for hours at a time.
I'm going back someday, come what may, to Blue Danube....
