I need to see a man about a bottom bracket in Passau, so we're booking our way down the Danube. On paper, this doesn't look too hard, as the EuroVelo 6 here is mostly flat and trending downward. But for some reason, the constructors of the German portion of this route keep putting us on gravel. And gravel is slow, bumpy, and rough on one's body and gear.
So today we went off script and used Mapy.cz to create an all-asphalt route. And it felt like a hot knife through butter. We still saw plenty of adorable towns and impressive hops felds, but without scrambling our marrow.
